A Spotify pitch introduces an unreleased song to the editorial team. You can control the choice of track, the accuracy of the information, the timing and the clarity of its story. You cannot order a playlist placement, and submission is not a promise of support.

Check that the release is ready to pitch

Spotify support describes song pitching as a process for an upcoming, unreleased track, with one song pitched at a time. Start by checking that the release has been delivered correctly and appears in the relevant artist tools. If the recording or profile is missing, resolve delivery and access before concentrating on the wording.

Do not automatically select the loudest or longest track. Choose a song whose character you can explain and whose release you are prepared to support. For an EP, agree the focus track early enough that visuals, artwork and promotional material are not telling an entirely different story. The decision should be shared by those preparing the campaign.

Describe the music instead of praising it

Imagine a reader who does not know you and needs to understand the recording. Genre context, mood, a significant instrument or the circumstances behind the song can help. Claims such as the best song of the year or an entirely new sound offer little usable detail. If the music combines approaches, explain the combination concretely.

The story should be truthful and relevant. You do not need to turn an ordinary writing experience into a dramatic biography. A clear detail is enough: the subject of the lyrics, a change in vocal delivery or the song's place in a wider project. Explain why the listener-facing campaign fits that material.

  • Check the title, version and correct artist profile.
  • Describe musical characteristics that are actually audible.
  • Add concise context about the song and the planned release support.
  • Avoid presenting unverified figures, relationships or future results as established facts.

Ask someone familiar with the music to read the pitch before submission. Can they identify two or three concrete characteristics? If they only remember general praise, make the text more specific rather than making it longer. A short, understandable description is preferable to an overloaded list of unrelated achievements.

Allow time and plan an independent campaign

Current support guidance gives a minimum of seven days before release for the relevant Release Radar treatment of the pitched song. Spotify's release guide recommends a larger planning allowance. Do not use a minimum as a last-minute production schedule: delivery and corrections have their own lead times, and platform rules can change.

An editorial decision should not be the sole purpose of the campaign. The song needs a route to listeners even if no placement follows. Prepare material for your existing audience, a clear listening link and communication after release. Pitching is one component of that plan, not its replacement.

Question third-party guarantees

Spotify warns against paid services guaranteeing streams or placement. That is different from legitimate advertising that presents content to real people without promising a fixed listening result. Ask a supplier what they actually do and how the reported result is obtained.

A common mistake is judging a song's value by one playlist outcome. Review the wider release context and continue developing the audience relationship. Keep the original pitch, submission date and campaign observations for your next release. That creates a useful history of decisions rather than a collection of unsupported industry myths.

Before submitting, check that the description matches the final recording and avoids unsupported claims.
